I waited until an hour after the orthopedic doctor’s office opened the next day before calling again and leaving another voicemail. Working from home, I waited an additional four hours and left yet another voicemail. At this point, I didn’t care how crazy I sounded, repeatedly calling the doctor’s office and leaving three voicemails. My daughter needed an appointment, and I was determined to get her in to find out what was going on.
As the workday neared its end, I finally received a return call. The woman on the phone was very nice and helpful, acknowledging the importance of my repeated calls and explaining why they couldn't get back to me sooner. In the medical world, I understood that this didn't constitute an emergency, but in my mind, it sure as hell did.
She informed me that the soonest appointment was just over a month away. Hearing that was utterly disheartening. Offering a couple of dates and times, she allowed me to choose the absolute earliest appointment. We had to wait nearly five weeks until the appointment on May 11, 2023.
